Kyra Jenolan Sandoval is the only daughter of Doctor Rafael Sandoval, a scientist who conducted experiments analyzing a universal force called "The Empyrean." Little is known of their early history, but it is generally assumed Kyra and her father got on well, as the features for one of his artificial humanoids, Ain Soph (later known as Silhouette) was based on his daughter's, extrapolated to adulthood.

The exact details of the Empyrean experiment have yet to be revealed, but it is understood that Sandoval was able to tap the Empyrean energy field, which gave his artificial humanoids life (in addition to the capacity to manipulate certain facets of Empyrean energy) and, in a side effect not entirely understood, exposed Kyra to unknown energies which froze her at the chronological age of then while altering her perceptions, most specifically allowing her a certain level of precognition.
In the wake of the Empyrean experiment, Ain (better known as Lewis Sinclaire) and Silhouette were sent away for reasons unrevealed, but Kyra and her partner, Doctor Natas Reficul, kept the final humanoid, the phenomenally powerful Ain Soph Aur. Giving him the name Omega, Reficul and Sandoval designed redundant security systems to limit his powers and control him better, and Kyra spent the next few years teaching Omega everything in addition to shaping her perception and view of the universe to better suit her ultimate ends and ensure his perpetual psychological dependency on her.
Kyra and Omega kept a low profile on sparsely populated worlds until recently, when, while visiting Axanar, they encountered Sinclaire. Omega easily overpowered Sinclaire, neutralizing him as a threat while Kyra, for reasons of her own, exterminated the population of the Axanar settlement. Kyra, Reficul and Omega then escaped to whereabouts unknown.
